Do i need a new alternator and battery? what about wire?

I have a 2000 Ford explorer XLT and i have a 4000.1 amplifier hooked up to a RE audio xxx 12%26quot; subwoofer that is in a sealed. I currently have a pretty close to stock battery and also have another generic battery in the back. i am running the whole thing on about 5 gauge wire.

here are my questions and thanks again for the help!!!

what size wire should i run to power this setup?

do i need to add/change another battery(s)?

do i need to change the alternator to a HO?

How/where do i find a place that will show me how to do the big 3 upgrade?

thanks again for the help!!!!Do i need a new alternator and battery? what about wire?you do not say what brand amplifier you have but I am going to say that it doesn't put out anywhere near 4000 watts. if it did your amplifier would shut down from low voltage every time the bass hit. a true 4000 watts rms would probably set a 5 gauge wire on fire.

a 4000 watts rms amplifier would require two runs of 0 gauge wire, an H.O. alternator, 2 car audio style batteries and the big 3 as a minimum .

post the brand and model number of your amplifier and I could tell you more.

go to youtube and search for 'the big 3 ' . their are several videos to help you.
